KM Malta Airlines began operations on 31 March 2024 as the successor to Air Malta, the island's flag carrier since 1973, which was wound down under European state-aid rules. The new company inherited the national carrier role, key routes and Malta's aviation identity while starting with a restructured cost base.

The airline operates an Airbus A320neo family fleet from its single base at Malta International Airport in Luqa. Its network focuses on linking Malta with major European cities, including London, Paris, Amsterdam, Rome and Munich, serving both the island's tourism inflow and the Maltese diaspora. Operations are compact, with quick turnarounds radiating from one Mediterranean hub.
