Asiana Airlines was founded in Seoul in February 1988, breaking Korean Air's long monopoly on South Korean aviation. It grew quickly from domestic routes into a full-service intercontinental carrier, joined Star Alliance in 2003, and in December 2024 came under the ownership of Korean Air, which plans to integrate the two carriers into a single airline.
Asiana's hub is Seoul Incheon, with a secondary base at Gimpo for domestic and short-haul routes. The fleet mixes Airbus A321neos, A350-900s and A380s with Boeing 777s and 747-400 freighters. Sim pilots often fly its dense Northeast Asia shuttle network, including the busy Gimpo to Jeju corridor, one of the highest-frequency air routes in the world.
